I am often asked by guests to see photo’s or for a link to the accommodation I use on my safari tours. I recently did a blog post about Bonamanzi Game Reserve, but now it’s the time for Hilltop Camp, Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve.
Wildlife safaris tend to follow the same pattern everywhere you go; you’re up early, sometimes as early as 4:30am, you’re bundled into a jeep and then you get to spend the next few hours enjoying the beauty of the African savanna as the sun rises, stopping at some point for coffee and rusks, perhaps some biltong and some pastries. Then it’s back to camp for breakfast and rest.
Next you laze about around the pool, or visit a nearby attraction or experience and then lunch and some further lazing. Finally it’s time for your afternoon game drive with some sundowners, usually Amarula is involved and then back to the lodge for dinner and bed.
It makes sense then, that where ever you are staying, you should be comfortable and relaxed since you do spend a bit of time in your room.
Hilltop Camp, Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
Hilltop Camp in the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve is my go-to when booking safari accommodation for guests. From Nyalazi Gate of the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, the camp is about a 45min drive through the park, and from Memorial Gate, just 20min.
For me though, it’s the fact that Hilltop Camp has a restaurant that seals the deal. Whilst we usually braai when staying at Mpila Camp (blog post to follow) at Hilltop Camp it’s easier to head into the restaurant (don’t worry, it’s included in my tours) for dinner.
Picture Gallery of Chalets at Hilltop Camp
Hilltop Camp has a number of different “chalets”. Some of two sleepers, some are larger 4 sleepers (they have twin beds in two rooms) and there are even larger chalets that can take about 12 people.
Some of the chalets are self-catering and some have a functional kitchen, some of the chalets don’t. Essentially I’ll book whatever is available since guests will be eating at the restaurant so it doesn’t really make any difference to us.

Booking at Hilltop Camp, Hluhluwe Imfolozi
When booking we have to accept whatever chalet is available at the time since there are a limited number of chalets,so it’s always best to book as soon as practically possible.
If you are a member of your group has disabilities, we can also request a chalet that is geared towards those with disabilities, but again, it’s best to book as soon as possible.
