Lesotho Tours Update

It’s been a while coming, but here is a Lesotho tours update that is important for guest to be informed of. Over the last few months some challenges have arisen that has and will definitely impact on tourists travelling to Lesotho on a day trip or multi-day trip. There challenges relate to the Sani Pub – the highest pub in Africa.

The Sani Pub (the old but most familiar name) has been a popular destination for guests wanting an adventure into Lesotho, and of course who can blame them – even I enjoy the visit in spite of the millions of visits I’ve made there, in fact one of my favourite selfies has been at the pub.

The challenge for the pub though, is that it is a remote spot in the mountains with a small kitchen and a limit to the resources available. This means that sometimes a hundred tourists may arrive and waiting times for food can be well over an hour leading to frustrated and annoyed guests.

Sani Pub Restricts Guests

In order to resolve this issue, the Sani Pass Pub now restricts guests to a maximum of 40 per day. Spots have to be reserved at a cost of R200 per person (redeemable at the pub).

This means, that on a quiet day, guests will definitely be able to visit the highest pub in Africa – but if it’s a last minute booking or a large group, there is no guarantee that guests will be able to eat or drink at the pub at all.

To make things more exciting, booking only open on the 1st of the month for that particular month – so there is no booking 2 or 3 months in advance.

No Guarantee of Sani Pub Lunches

Naturally not being able to visit the highest pub in Africa is a disappointment, but this is the current state of affairs.

Of course there is more to visiting Lesotho on a Sani Pass day tour from Durban than just the pub; the views as you ascend Sani Pass are amazing and the people of Lesotho are warm and friendly!

And you will still get to a delicious lunch, just not necessarily at the Sani Pass Pub.

Booking for Lesotho tours from Durban

Not getting into the pub is a disappointment for sure, but it doesn’t distract from the experience of ascending Sani Pass into Lesotho. To book your spot simply visit the Sani Pass tour page (link below) or use the contact form to get in touch.
