It may sound very odd, “introducing a new, old tour” but the fact is I have been running this tour for years ans years but for some strange reason, never actually loaded the tour to the website! Well that is a lapse that has been corrected. Introducing my “elephant interaction and game drive day tour from Durban“.
When ever I am asked by guests about my favourite animal, I usually struggle to pick one, they are all my favourites. But I have to say, one is my favourite than the others, and that is the elephant.
One of the biggest thrills I have is finding elephant on a game drive, I’m constantly surprised as to how easily they disappear into the bush, how silent they are when the move about and even how contemplative they seem when chilling out on a hot day in the shade of an Umbrella Thorn tree.
The Elephant Experience
Some 3 hours or so north of the city of Durban is the Manyoni game reserve and situated on the reserve is Bayete Zulu. Manyoni has the big 5 with a whole host of elephants. but two of these elephants (used to be three) are extra special.
Rambo and Rachel arrived at Manyoni years ago through difficult circumstances (we wont get into that now) and have settled into their new home perfectly. Every day in the late morning they know that if they head up to the Boma, they’ll get a treat.
So every day they head to the Boma and get their treats, and while there they happily put up with curious humans who take a lot of pictures and hand the elephants even more treats!
Apart from handing the elephants treats, guests get to learn more about these breathing tanks including how sensitive their sense of small is and how the bottom of their feet have tracks similar to trainers (so much more to learn).
This is an amazing experience in an amazing part of the world that is worth the effort to get there!
Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
But that’s not all!
After this unique experience I’ll take you into the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, Africa’s oldest proclaimed game reserve, where you’ll get to see more of Africa’s game – from Giraffe to Warthog and Rhino to Imapala.
Here you’ll get to enjoy a 3 hour game drive either with me in my closed vehicle, or if you prefer, jump into the options open safari game vehicle.
Of course lunch is required so we do stop along the way for a bite to eat.
