In a previous post I wrote about the exciting news that Club Med was opening the first resort in Africa, just north of Durban on the east coast of South Africa. I also mentioned in the post that at some point, I’d chat about the tours that you can book if staying at the resort. So, here you are then, tours from Club Med South Africa, Beach and Safari.
Safari Tours From Club Med, South Africa
If you’re staying the week (or two) at Club Med South Africa, you will definitely want to enjoy a wildlife safari tour, after all, the big 5, Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve is just 2 hours north of Club Med!
There are two options really, either book a safari day tour from Club Med South Africa, or book a multi-day safari tour before or after your stay at Club Med. Personally I recommend before because then you get a free transfer to the resort and you then get to recover from your safari tour.
Here are the options I have for you for a safari day tour from Club Med. Regardless of the tour, the price includes pick-up and drop-off at Club Med.
Hluhluwe Imfolozi Big 5 Safari Day Tour: Depart at 6:30am and head north to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve. Either enjoy a safari tour in our comfortable closed vehicles, or enjoy the warmth of the African sun on your skin with an open safari vehicle. Both private and group tours available.
iSimangaliso St Lucia Estuary Cruise: Depart at 7:00am and enjoy a day in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spot hippo, crocodile and amazing birdlife on a 2 hour estuary cruise. Included is a tour of the crocodile park and a boardwalk stroll.
Elephant Experience and Game Drive: Leave Club Med at 7:30am and head north to Bayete Zulu. On arrival be greeted by Rambo and Rachel, two wild elephant rescued from culling operations now living out their best lives. From here you’ll then head into the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve for a 3 hour game drive before returning to Club Med.
Kruger National Park and eSwatini Multi-Day Tour: This amazing safari tour offers the best of Kruger National Park plus an fantastic jaunt through the Kingdom of eSwatini. I run this tour often and believe it is going to be popular option for visitors looking to maximise their safari experience in South Africa.
Durban City Tours and Zulu Cultural Tours from Cub Med
Durban is about 45 min away from Club Med, so it’s a great opportunity to discover more about Zulu and Indian heritage and culture – it’s best to make a day out of it. I recommend booking the tours as a transfer either to or from the airport – of course I am happy to run it as a tour from Club Med as well.
Durban City Tour: You’ll get collected at 8am from Club Med South Africa and by 9am you’ll be exploring the city of Durban. You’ll get to enjoy a walk through the Zulu and Indian Markets as well as visit the oldest Botanical Gardens in Africa.

Zulu Township Cultural Tour: On this amazing experience you’ll get to visit a local township called KwaMashu where you’ll learn about the Zulu way of life in modern, contemporary Durban. Onthis tour you will visit the home of Mahtma Gandhi and visit the site where Nelson Mandela cast the first free and fair election vote in South Africa.
Rorkes Drift and iSandlwana Day Tour: From Club Med south Africa it’s about a 3 hour drive to the battlefields of Rorkes Drift and iSandlwana – and for those of French heritage, you can even visit the site at which the brave Prince Imperial died fighting int he Zulu war of 1879.
Adventure Tours from Club Med
Durban (and of course Club Med South Africa) is the best place in South Africa to get the blood pumping with outdoor experiences. From swimming with sharks, learning to surf and hiking in the Drakensberg to helicopter and microlight flips along the coastline, there are few places were you can release your inner adrenaline-junky as easily as Durban.
Hike to the Bushman Paintings in the Drakensberg Mountains: You may not know that before the Zulu (Bantu) and the Europeans arrived in Southern Africa, a group of people known as the Bushman People were already living in the mountains and foothills of the Drakensberg. On this day tour you can learn much about their history and see the evidence of their existence on cave walls.
Microlight Flights: This is an amazing experience where you get to soar the blue skies along the magnificent coastline of KwaZulu-Natal. Perfect for those with a love for the skies above, this early morning activity will get the blood pumping and treat you to the most amazing views. Get in touch for up to date prices and availability.
Swim with Sharks / Snorkelling: One of great privileges of living in Natal / Zululand is the coastline itself. I offer a number of opportunities to explore the waters either swimming with sharks or snorkelling the reefs off Durban and Salt Rock. Enquire for pricing and availability.
